Careers

Built for lawyers who want the work, not the bureaucracy.

LP Evans is growing. We are always interested in hearing from experienced criminal defence lawyers and consultants who want serious cases and a say in how they are run.

A practice that has grown on its own work

The firm was founded on Fleet Street in 2011 and has grown steadily since, adding experienced fee earners as the caseload has grown. That growth has come from referral and own-client work rather than from acquisition, which is a slower way to build a practice and a more durable one.

The result is a small firm carrying cases that much larger firms would be pleased to have: terrorism, homicide, large-scale importation, HMRC prosecutions and confiscation, in courts from Truro to Catterick.

Consultants

We work with consultant solicitors and solicitor-advocates who want to run their own caseload with the backing of an established practice — our Legal Aid Agency contract, our systems and our relationships with counsel — without the overhead of running a firm themselves.

Arrangements are agreed individually. If you have a following and want to know what working with us would look like in practice, the conversation is confidential and costs you nothing.

Who we tend to get on with

  • Experienced criminal defence solicitors, duty-qualified or seeking accreditation.
  • Solicitor-advocates with higher rights who want to keep their own advocacy.
  • Lawyers with a specialism we do not yet cover in depth — appeals, extradition, regulatory and inquest work among them.
  • Consultants with an established following looking for a better platform for it.
We are not advertising a specific vacancy. We would rather hear from the right person at the wrong moment than the wrong person at the right one. If that is you, write to Yaqub directly.

Applying

Write to Yaqub Hussain at y.hussain@lpevans.com with a CV and a short note on the work you want to be doing. Every approach is treated in confidence, and you will hear back either way.

What you would be joining

Serious cases, and the room to run them.

The reasons people stay, in the words we would use if you asked us over coffee rather than in an advert.

01

The caseload is the draw

Terrorism, homicide, large importations and HMRC prosecutions. Not a diet of guilty pleas in the magistrates' court.

02

Small enough to decide

No committee stands between you and a decision on your own case. If counsel needs instructing today, they get instructed today.

03

Both funding routes

A Legal Aid Agency contract and a private client base, so you are not forced to build a practice out of only one of them.

Speak to a defence solicitor

The first hours of a case shape everything that follows.

Call us before you are interviewed. Advice at the police station is free, whatever your means — and our out-of-hours line is answered by a solicitor, day or night.
